Mayhem's Faramir Challenge! (WIN WAR IN THE NORTH!)
“A chance for Faramir, captain of Gondor, to show his quality “
(the very lowest, lol)
Closing date of contest: June 30th
Instructions: Play as Faramir on Minas Morgul HTDM and attempt to achieve the “best” score possible.
Winner: The player with the “best” Faramir score on Minas Morgul HTDM (screenshot to prove). “Best” does not necessarily mean highest k/d ratio (though this obviously is the primary requisite), but will also be judged by the context of the game. This might include the number of players in the server and the quality of particular other players involved in the game etc.
Prize: A copy of War in the North, pre-ordered for its 24th August release date for the system of your choice!
Rules:
1 - Players must play as Faramir with each of their lives.
2 - A screenshot must be taken of the game closing score and posted in this thread. ONLY SCREENSHOTS POSTED TO THE LOTR PROBOARDS FORUM (HERE)WILL BE ELIGIBLE!!
[/size]
3 - You must have at least one witness of your performance.
4 - In addition to Faramir, there must be at least six other players in the server for the duration of the game (so there will be seven players including Faramir).
5 – The game must be “shoot” (real). No “worked” (fake) scores will be accepted. No “faramir boosting” melee only games will be accepted (and I think these will be obvious to judge from the scores). This must be a regular game of HTDM.
6 - Cheats will be disqualified and the judge's decision is final.
7 – The winner shall receive a copy of War in the North for the system of their choice. This will be pre-ordered from Amazon.
8 - You may enter as many times as you like.
Background
“The greatest man may be felled by one arrow, andBoromir Faramir was pierced with many”
Of all heroes powerful and feeble to make the transition from text, to screen, to game, one in particular is remarkable in his ineptitude. Faramir of Gondor is the without question the most useless, underplayed and unloved hero in all the barren wastes of the CNQReboot servers. Wizened men have long debated in hushed tones rounds crackling fires in musty alehouses the various shortfalls of Faramir's melee attacks. How his catherine wheel of death looks like it should halve the constitution of a warg and yet inflicts scarcely a scratch. How his weak melee is, without rhyme or reason, nerfed to just two hits in a combo. How lamentably impossible his combo chaining abilities appear. And above all, how... you.... just...... can't... CLOSE........... THE......................................... DISTANCE
And yet, let us consider the disposition of one brave enough to consistently choose Faramir from the mighty wheel of vicarious character selection. For most, Faramir's image is but a fleeting shadow in the noon sun, an aberration against top scores and a helpless handicap against gaming proficiency; an instant respawn or suicide if inadvertently chosen. But for those hardened few, those merry band of brothers, Faramir is not so much a selection as a way of life. Faramir players are better people. A Faramir player is statistically likely to be better educated, more loved and of superior dexterity to the lesser class proles. He will be eloquent, better looking and graced with a mellifluous affability. There is also no denying that ladies love cool Farry.
Yes, the Faramir player can rest assured that, as he pulls the shotgun arrows from his skull and winces at his lightning charred back, he can look down on the peons below safe on his moral high ground.
But now it's time for things to change! It's time to turn Farry playing from a neglected ascetic discipline to a natural choice for those with a predilection for pwnage. To turn Farry from a monk of misery to a mean, mother****n', death wielding servant of Gondor. This is a contest to see who can master the way of Farry before war breaks out in the north.
